Selangor cops to hold Merdeka carnival, bike ride in Shah Alam on Aug 26

SHAH ALAM: In conjunction with the upcoming Merdeka celebrations, the Selangor police will be holding a special carnival and bicycle ride through the city on Saturday (Aug 26).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the event will be the first of its kind held by the police contingent here.

"We decided to organise this PDRM Selangor Merdeka Ride and Carnival at the Shah Alam Stadium to create a harmonious and fun activity for the police and community to celebrate our country's independence.

"Our main objective is to build on our slogan 'Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada'," he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters on Tuesday (Aug 22).

He said they hoped the event would not only strengthen ties between police and the community but also give business opportunities to traders while promoting a healthier lifestyle.

"We will be holding two bicycle rides, a 10km VIP ride and a 30km route for normal riders," he said adding that registration for the ride costs RM70.

He have 1,200 riders registered for the event so far and police will limit it to a total of 2,500 riders.

"Those who are interested in registering can find a QR code to do so on our Polis Selangor Facebook page.

"I am sure many will also be interested in settling their summonses on that day which is why we decided to open a booth at the Shah Alam Stadium with a 50% discount for selected summonses," he said adding that Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah has expressed interest in joining the cycling event and will also officiate it.

He said there would also be various other activities for those attending including a petting zoo, fun fair, martial arts demonstration, magic show as well as performances by various local artists.
